Administrative History

Gary College was organized in 1932. It was designed to fulfill what was felt to be a local-community responsibility to provide equality of opportunity for those in Gary, Indiana, who had the intellectual capacity and the desire to attain higher education.

Slightly more than 12 percent of Gary High School graduates entered Gary College in 1936. Students attending Gary College paid for their instructional costs and for use of the local school facilities for an adult education department.
