Historical Note
The Acton Park Assembly was part of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle. The Acton Park Assembly was an annual gathering for members in southern Indiana. At the Assembly, well known Indiana authors presented their work and instructed students on proper writing techniques. Also at the Assembly, students in the “Pansy Class of 1887” were awarded diplomas and recognized for outstanding achievement. The Assembly began on July 27, 1887 and ended on August 17, 1887.
The Acton Park Assembly was held at the Acton Park Campground, approximately 11 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

Biographical Note
James C. Pulse was born in Decatur County, Indiana around 1843. He was an officer of the Acton Park Assembly and wrote the invitation to the "Pansy Class of 1887". He died on October 1, 1901 in Paragould, Arkansas.
John F. (J. F.) McKee was born around 1841 and was a lawyer in Brookville, Indiana. He was a private in Company L, 3rd Indiana Calvary, 44th Regiment before transferring to Company A, 8th Indiana Calvary, 39th Regiment during the Civil War and mustered out on July 20, 1865. He died on September 12, 1899 in Indianapolis.
