Biographical Note

Nathaniel Williams was born on January 12, 1817 in Ashe County, North Carolina. He moved to Lawrence County, Indiana in 1817, then to Morgan County in 1852. In 1856, he returned to Lawrence County. He was a blacksmith, farmer, merchant, minister and a justice of the peace for two terms. He married Rosamma Owens in 1834, and they had three children before her death in 1839. He married Susannah Owens in 1840, and they had eight children before her death in 1879. He married Ella Shaw in 1880. He was a Democratic member of the Indiana House of Representatives in 1863, representing Lawrence County.
