Administrative History
The envelopes were addressed to James A. Jones, an attorney in Bicknell, Indiana.
The Kiefer-Stewart Company in 1924 was a wholesaler for druggists' sundries, including cigars and tobacco. Its offices were at the corner of Georgia and Capitol Streets in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Denison Hotel was located at Pennsylvania and Ohio Streets in Indianapolis, Indiana. Work started on the hotel in 1870, and the first structure remained an incomplete four-story brick building, occupying one acre, until it was damaged by fire in 1874. After the conflagration, the structure was rebuilt from the ruins and was formally opened in 1880 as the "New-Denison House." The Dension Hotel served as a political center for both Republicans and Democrats.
The Hotel English stood on Monument Circle in Indianapolis, on the same site previously occupied by Henry Ward Beecher's Second Presbyterian Church. In fact, the hotel contained one brick wall from that church with its five stained glass windows. This hotel, with its 250 rooms, was built in 1880 and shared the northwest quadrant of Monument Circle with the English Theatre. The hotel's central location made it a part of the commercial life of downtown Indianapolis for many years.
