Administrative History
The collection was collected by the Hendricks County auditor from 1880 to 1885, with a few undated items. The county auditor's office in Indiana prepared plats of each civil township into sections, grants, divisions, subdivisions, lots or parts of lots to show the current ownership of each parcel. The auditor is also the chief fiscal officer of a county. His office prepares annual tax duplicates showing assessments against each owner. The auditor keeps accounts and issues warrants for the payments of claims and issues calls for the redemption of outstanding county orders or indebtedness when the treasurer has funds for such redemptions.
