Administrative History

Carlon and Hollenbeck was founded in 1864 by John Carlon and Charles E. Hollenbeck. In 1898, Hollenbeck bought controlling interest, renaming the business Hollenbeck Press. Hollenbeck Press published many historical pieces, illustrated periodicals, city directories and local newspapers, such as the Indianapolis News and the Indianapolis Journal. When Hollenbeck died in 1901, the company reorganized with William C. Bobbs, Charles W. Merrill, and Merrill B. Barkley as directors and controlling stock members. The company existed until circa 1981.
