Biographical Note

John "Jack" Winton Swank was born July 24, 1924 in Hartford City, Indiana to Paul J. and Pauline L. (Clements) Swank. The family moved to Wingate in Montgomery County then later to Lebanon, Indiana where his father served as the school superintendent. Swank graduated from the Indiana State School for the Deaf in May 1943 and on November 29, 1953, he married Martha L. Baughman (1918-1998). Swank worked for Prairie Industries and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church (Lebanon) and the Terre Haute Deaf Club. He passed away at the age of 78 on August 18, 2002.
