This collection includes correspondence, papers, newspaper clippings, advertisements, pamphlets, notes, greeting and calling cards, recipes, diaries, postcards, photographs, ribbons, fabric swatches, and an account book from Josephine Brown Stayman and Chalmers Brown, principally in Indianapolis, Indiana and the United States, ranging from 1840 to 1967, regarding the insurance industry, Indiana politics, societies and clubs, and daily life.
Oversize items include Chalmers Brown's masonry membership certificate and card for the Consistery of the Valley of Indianapolis in Indiana dated March 27, 1879 and 15 prize ribbons from the Indiana State Fair (1902-1903, 1919) and an unknown "Floor Committee" (OB232).

Biographical Note
Chalmers W. Brown (1848-1928), was president of the Reserve Loan Life Insurance Company.
Josephine Brown was born on February 18, 1873 to Chalmers W. (1848-1928) and Julia (Craven) Brown (1848-1874) in Indianapolis, Indiana. She married Guy L. Stayman (1870-1954) on October 3, 1893 in Delaware County, Ohio. Josephine B. Stayman died February 5, 1969, and was buried at Crown Hill Cemetery.
