Daniel Yandes was an early pioneer of Indiana. Born January 28, 1893 in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, he was the younger son of Simon and Anna Catherine (Rider) Yandes. During the War of 1812 he served six months in Northern Ohio under General William Henry Harrison. He married Anna Wilson (1795-1851) on February 18, 1815 and together they had eleven children, with six living to adulthood. The Yandes moved to Fayette County, Indiana in 1818 and then moved to Indianapolis in 1821. Yandes served as the Marion County Treasurer and in 1823 established the first tannery in the county with John Wilkins, a partnership that lasted for over 30 years.
