Historical Note

Real Silk began manufacturing lingerie and undergarments in 1922, under the leadership of J.A. and L.L. Goodman. At the company's peak its annual sales of women's hosiery reached 12 million pairs. Real Silk had some financial problems in the 1930's, but its difficulties soon subsided with the start of World War II. During the war the company manufactured parachute bomb sleeves and hosiery for male and female military personnel. In the 1950's the company's manufacturing operations were closed in Indianapolis. Today the building is used for condominiums and apartments.
