Indianapolis city attorney ledgers

 Collection — Folder: S1886
Identifier: S1886

Scope and Contents

This collection is composed almost entirely of ledger pages recording credits mostly to named persons but occasionally to named companies. Items recorded include rent collected, insurance, postage, The Indianapolis News, the Reporter, magazines, but mostly for street taxes paid in Indianapolis, Indiana for the years 1895 and 1896.

Some pages contain drafts of letters written by an attorney concerning, in one instance, the city council's attempt to enforce an ordinance fixing a fee of $1000.00 to be paid by those engaged in selling malt liquor wholesale and, in another instance, an attempt to enforce a regulation against the obstruction of sidewalks. The drafts are few and fragmentary. There is an interesting reference to a zoo of the 1890s.
