Scope and Contents
This collection contains several items collected by Lillian M. Robbins regarding the Broadway Methodist Church of Indianapolis, including a clipping of "Broadway Beat," a column written by Broadway's minister of outreach Charles Blackmon in 1964; a clipping of a photograph captioned "Day Camp" about Broadway's upcoming camp and Vacation Church School (undated); a handbill announcement for the "Broadway Banquet for India" fundraiser held May 13 (circa 1960s) and a two-page document with suggestions of six ways to donate and support the work of the church's missionaries to India, Paul and Mabel Wagner; and a handbill announcement for the "Loyalty 1966 Broadway Methodist Church Program." Other items regarding Christianity include undated clippings of Reinhold Nibuhr's "Serenity Prayer" published under the caption "This Week's Words to Live By" and devotional readings titled "Sacred at a Bug-a-Boo," "A Straight Road," "Post Mortem Praise," and "Praise Brings Blessing."
This collection also includes a clipping of a December 3, 1964 newspaper photograph of John Robbins, Lillian Robbin's son, standing with other members of the La Playa Real String Ensemble; a clipping of a July 18, 1968 newspaper photograph of David F. Evans, president of L.S. Ayres and Company, receiving a Community Service Award; and a February 4, 1969 letter written by Daniel Evans and sent to Mrs. Robbins thanking her for the article she sent.

Biographical Note
Martha Lillian Matthews was born October 10,1889 in Baltimore County, Maryland to Scott P. and Mollie E. (Canoles) Matthews. Following her mother's death in March 1899, she moved with her family to Indianapolis when she was 11 years old. In July 1908, a month after graduating from Shortridge High School, she married Harry L. Robbins and they became the parents of six children. She worked for the L.S. Ayres and Company for 17 years and retired in 1955. Robbins was an expert in tapestry weaving and traveled extensively exhibiting her weavings and leacturing on the art. She was an active church member and taught Sunday school at Broadway, Central and North United Methodist churches. She was named "Indiana Mother of the Year" in 1962 by the Indiana Mothers Committee. Robbins passed away at the age of 86 on April 26, 1976.
