Scope and Contents

This collection includes two poems by an unknown author written on Congressional stationary with the blind stamp of Owens and Hurlbut in the upper-left corner. The first poem is five stanzas, with the first as follows:

My Dear Col. Bush

Can't you hush

And be a little more Steadfast

You are not right

To go and get tight

In the morning before breakfast

"Recipe for -- to be taken Every morning before breakfast" is written above the second poem that begins, "When I did him Provoke."

Historical Note

In 1822, Charles Owen and Thomas Hurlbut assumed ownership of a paper mill in South Lee, Massachusetts and operated the business as the Owen and Hurlbut Paper Company. The partnership was dissolved in 1860, but the mill continued in business and still operates today as Onyx Specialty Papers, Inc.
