Biographical Note

James Dill was an Irish attorney who came to America shortly after the Revolutionary War and settled in the Northwest Territory. He was a friend of William Henry Harrison and the son-in-law of General Arthur St. Clair. He was one of the first members of the bar in Dearborn County, Indiana. He represented Dearborn County at the Constitutional Convention of Indiana in 1816. He was the first recorder of Dearborn County. He served as a General during the War of 1812, was speaker of the Territorial legislature of Indiana and a member of the anti-slavery party. James Dill died in 1838. Alexander Dill, the son of James Dill, served as an officer in the 55th Regiment of Indiana. Source: Indiana Biographical Series. v. 3 p. 283-284.
