Biographical / Historical

Crown Hill Cemetery is the third largest cemetery in the United States. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana and incorporated on September 25, 1863, the non-profit, non-denominational cemetery began with 236 acres of land purchased from local farmers for $51,000. Landscape architect Frederick W. Chislett was hired to oversee the construction of the cemetery and served as its superintendent until 1899. Crown Hill is now 555 acres in size and is designated a National Historical Place.

Biographical / Historical

Susan Kealing Rupp was born March 4, 1841 in Pennsylvania to German immigrants. He husband, Charles Rupp (1831-1895), moved to Indianapolis in the 1850s and became a successful confectioner and prosperous farmer. Susan passed away at the age of 71 on December 5, 1912 and she and Charles are buried in Lot. No. 208, Section 25 at Crown Hill Cemetery.
