This collection includes a December 1, 1936 letter written by Frances Parks of Martinsville, Indiana and sent to Miss (Esther) McNitt at the Indiana State Library. In the letter, Mrs. Parks mentions that there is an interest in the community to reorganize a Morgan County Historical Society and establishing a museum on land once owned by Samuel Moore, the founder of Mooresville. She also mentions receiving papers at the court house from Miss Ida Fogleman, a direct descendant of Moore, and wanting to send the "valuable letters" to Miss McNitt.

Biographical Note
Frances Henderson was born on December 17, 1857 in Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana to Ebenezer and Ann Eliza (Hunt) Henderson. Her father was active in local and state Democratic politics and served as Indiana State Auditor from 1875 to 1879. She was a graduate of St. Mary's of the Woods at Terre Haute and married Willard Emmett Parks on December 4, 1879. Widowed in 1890, she continued to live in Martinsville and in her seventies was elected the recorder of Morgan County in 1932 and re-elected in 1934. She passed away at the age of 91 on August 24, 1949.
