Historical note

I.H.C. Royse was a citizen of Macon County, Illinois who volunteered in defense of the Union on August 11, 1862. The "South Macon Company" was organized and mustered into service by Lieutenant Ferd. E. de Courcy of the 13th U.S. Infantry on September 13, 1862. 2nd Lieut. Royse was wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga September 20, 1863 and was transported back north to a hospital on September 24, 1863.
