Biographical Note

John F. Ross was born on March 4, 1788, near Morgantown, Virginia. He moved to Indiana in 1805. He served in the Indiana militia during the War of 1812 and continued his service until 1819. Ross also served as Harrison County prosecuting attorney (1813- 1814); assistant secretary of the Constitutional Convention (1816); Lawrence County prosecuting attorney (1818-1819); Monroe County prosecuting attorney (1820); a member of the State House of Representatives (1819-1821); and president judge of the 2nd circuit (1823-1834).
