Administrative History
When the Pennsylvania Railroad Freight House at New Castle, Indiana, was torn down, Earl E. Fitch found way-bills which had been kept by more than one railroad company, all of them dated in the 1850s. At one point, the Pennsylvania Railroad operated ¼ of Indiana’s rail mileage and made a huge impact on the state of Indiana. Other railroads that are mentioned in the collection include the Eaton and Hamilton and Richmond and Miami Railroad; Cincinnati and Logansport and Chicago Railroad and the Cincinnati and Chicago Railroad.
