Historical Note
Garrett, Indiana was founded by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1875. It was named after John Garrett, then president of the railroad. The town was reclassified as a city in 1898. It was used as a convenient stop between Willard, Ohio and Chicago for railroad passengers and as such it eventually became the home of several car shops and an engine facility. In the early 1950s, the steam railroad started to decline and along with it the prosperity of Garrett Indiana.
Garrett is in DeKalb County in the north eastern part of the state of Indiana.
