Biographical Note

James A. Seaton lived in Centerville, Indiana until 1850, when he joined a group of other Hoosiers to head to California to take part in the California Gold Rush. During that trip, he kept a diary of his travels and the things that he saw and did during a journey that took several months. Later, in 1942, after his death his diary was sold after his daughter, Cora S. Gilchrist died and excerpts from the diary were published in the Richmond Palladium, the local newspaper for Richmond, Indiana.
