Scope and Contents
This collection includes copies of two different letters written by Jessamyn West to Reverend Mahin, both were written in 1971. The first letter discusses Jessamyn’s past history, including her childhood and professional work. The second letter is about a visit Jessamyn made to Indianapolis, Indiana and paying for the hotel that she stayed in during that trip.

Biographical Note
Jessamyn West was born on July 18, 1902 in Jennings County, Indiana before she and her family moved out to California at the age of 6. She was a devout Quaker and planned on becoming an English professor until she contracted tuberculosis and was ill until the 1940s. She did recover and went on to become a well-known Quaker author, publishing at least fourteen books and multiple short stories. She died on February 23, 1984 of a stroke in Napa, California.
