Historical Note

The United Spanish War Veterans was a organization established in 1904 for veterans of the Spanish-American War, the Philippine-American War, and the Chinese Expedition. The group's main objective was to "unite in fraternal bonds, through national, state and local organizations, those men who served in the military or naval establishments of the United States of America in the war with Spain and in the campaigns incidental to and growing out of that war." The organization was called a department at the state level and a camp at the local level. The Winfield T. Durbin Camp, No. 78 was the local chapter of Anderson, Indiana.
