This collection includes a typewritten transcription of Martha Patton's will made from the original documents loaned to the Indiana State Library by Mrs. Theodore Craven on January 5, 1931. Mrs. Patton's last will and testament is dated July 25, 1919 and was produced in the Adams County, Ohio Court of Common Pleas on October 27, 1831.

Biographical Note

Martha Sharp was born around 1758 in Glasgow, Scotland and was the daughter of a Presbyterian minister. She married John Patton in 1775 and they had 8 children: Nathaniel, Martha, Thomas, Nathan, John, Jane, Mary, and Nancy. She lived with her family in Rockbridge County, Virginia. Following the death of her husband in 1809, she moved with her children to Cherry Fork, Adams County, Ohio. She died there in 1831.
