Scope and Contents
This collection contains several items related to Wabash County, Indiana, including two copies of a reprint of the twenty-fifth in a series of old time stories that appeared in the September 17, 1925 North Manchester News-Journal; a "wooden nickel" certificate created to commemorate the July 1935 Wabash County centennial; a copy of "Hopewell in Wabash County: Birthplace of Gene Stratton-Porter," a small, undated souvenir booklet containing images of a house, church and cemetery; an undated drawing of one of the four arch lamps that was used to light the streets of Wabash by electricity in 1880; and an undated, handwritten ad for the sale of a 118 acre farm near North Manchester for $6,500, written on Newton Todd Stocks and Bonds letterhead and with the name of J.J. Valdenaire of 3595 Bloyd Avenue, Indianapolis written on the back.

Historical Note
The area that encompasses Wabash County, Indiana was first opened to white settlers in October 1826 following the signing of a treaty between the Miami and the United States government. The county was officially created by an act of the state legislature in 1835 and the town of Wabash, the county seat, was the first town organized. Other communities in the county include LaFontaine, Lagro, North Manchester, and Roan.
