Historical Note
The Bass Photo Company of Indianapolis is the second-oldest photography company in Indiana. It started as a branch studio of the James Bayne Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1897. By 1899, the company had been sold to Walter J. Woodworth, a former employee, and William H. Bass. Specializing in commercial and industrial photographs, the company was named Woodworth and Company then renamed the Bass and Woodworth Company in 1901. Woodworth left the business in 1905 and the studio was named the W.H. Bass Photo Company. As of 2021, the company is still located at its original location at 308 South New Jersey Street in Indianapolis.
