Scope and Contents

This collection includes letters written in English ranging from March 1962 to March 1964 that were sent to Diane Peka of Richmond, Indiana from Kyoko Watanabe, a pen pal from Tokyo, Japan. The collection also includes a 1962 photograph of a Japanese girl, presumably Kyoko; a September 24, 1964 letter sent to Peka from Kisako Okubo, another Japanese student looking for a pen pal to help her learn English; and a pencil drawing of a girl in traditional Japanese attire.

Biographical Note

Diane Peka was born May 2, 1947 at Richmond, Indiana to Robert and Irene (Kotzer) Peka. A 1965 graduate of Richmond High School, she attended Weaver Airline School and worked for the Daytona Beach, Florida Aviation Corp. On November 24, 1967, she married Carroll D. Bernier in Bethesda, Maryland.
