Historical Note
Gibson County is located in southwestern Indiana and was established in 1813 when Indiana was still a territory. In 1814, William Prince, Robert Elliott, Abel Westfall and William Polk were appointed commissioners to chose a location for the county's seat and its name was selected by drawing one of the commissioner's names from a hat. William Prince's name was drawn and the town was known as "Princetown" before changing to Princeton.
