Biographical / Historical
The origins of the Historical Society of Decatur County, Indiana date back to 1916. The initial attempt to organize a group was short lived, but another society was established in 1924 and was named the Decatur County Historical Society. In 1928, the group was give space in the old West End School in Greenburg to house its artifacts and genealogy lists. The Society was active until the West School was slated to be razed. The group was inactive for a number of years in the 1950s before a new group, the Historical Society of Decatur County, was organized in 1959. Paul Huber served as the first president of the new group and also served as editor of the Society's newsletter, The Bulletin. The Society is still active and its offices and museum are located in the Shannon-Lathrop house, a 19th century home located in Greensburg.
