Historical note

The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America, commonly knowns as the United Auto Workers (UAW), was founded in 1935 and is one of the largest unions in North America. Local 933 in Indianapolis is one of more than 600 local unions that negotiate contracts with employers in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Since its founding, the UAW has been committed to improving working conditions and increasing wages and benefits for working men and women. The union has also been a leader in the struggle to secure economic and social justice for all people and encourages its members to vote and take an active interest in political issues.
