Biographical note

Alexander L. Whitehall was a farmer and early pioneer of Fountain County, Indiana. He was born January 27, 1799 in Currituck County, North Carolina and married Elizabeth Newbern in 1821. He and Elizabeth had 9 children, the five youngest born in Indiana following the family's arrival in 1832. Their son Alexander Jr. became a physician and served as an assistant surgeon with the 60th Indiana Regiment during the Civil War. Following the death of his wife in 1849, Alexander Sr. married Margaret Coseboom in April 1850. He passed away at the age of 65 in February 1864.
