Administrative History
William Dimond, city marshal of Huntington, Indiana, helped found the Indiana Municiapl League on February 16, 1889 for the purpose of police officers from different cities working together in ferreting out crime and apprehending criminals. Leading up to the creation of the organization, an organized gang of thieves had caused law enforcement offices considerable trouble in northern Indiana, including the city of Huntington, the year before.
The League expanded its original purpose of aiding policemen in catching criminals, circa 1903 to the installation of sewers, repair of sidewalks, tramps, street improvement, and legal departments for municipalities.
