Historical Note

The Midwest Cherokee Alliance charter was established on November 8, 1981 with 36 members and a mission to preserve Cherokee heritage, language and history. Anyone with Native American ancestry could join and others with an interest in Native American culture were allowed to join as associate members. The first issue of the organization's newsletter, Talking Leaves, was printed in April, 1983.
