Administrative History

The Indianapolis Dramatic Society wrote their articles of association on November 19, 1872, forming their club for "the purpose of reading, rehearsing and playing comedies and dramtic plays for mutual improvement and entertainement." The club originally comprised 10 women and 12 men. In 1873, the society put on three plays: Poor Pillicody, Married Life, and Betsy Baker. The Indianapolis Dramatic Society suspended operations in 1878 when Austin H. Brown departed to organize a dramatic club for the Scottish Rite.
