Scope and Contents
This collection includes catalogs, bibiliographies, book lists, correspondence, notes and survey forms for local authors by county collected by the Indiana State Library and compiled by public libraries, librarians, and private individuals in Indiana ranging from 1878 to 1914 regarding authors from around the state of Indiana. The correspondence is largely that of State Librarian William E. Henry. Miscellaneous materials include clippings, notes, government documents on copyright, press notices and circulars.

Biographical Note/Historical Note/Administrative History
Indiana State Librarian William E. Henry conducted an inquiry of Indiana authors around the state, requesting information from librarians, literary clubs, publishers, and private individuals regarding Hoosier writers in 1896-1897. He even sent out survey forms for information on authors from the state's 92 counties.
