Historical note
In the 1950s, Indiana’s state agencies were scattered around Indianapolis in twenty-two different locations. In 1957, the General Assembly created a new Indiana State Office Building Commission to choose a site and oversee the construction of a new building. A thirteen-story structure was built on the west side of Senate Avenue directly across from the State Capitol and a dedication ceremony for the office building was held on December 20, 1960.
