Scope and Contents

There are three items in this collection: (1) card listing 1939-1940 officers; (2) letter dated November 7, 1939, from Chester W. Cleveland, secretary of the Indiana Society, to Christopher B. Coleman; and (3) an Application for Membership. The letter invited Mr. Coleman to join the Society and attend the 28th annual dinner in the Palmer House on December 16. At the dinner, the cadets of Culver Military Academy and the Purdue University Glee Club would be performing. The guest of honor was Honorable Paul V. McNutt. Irene Dunne, screen star, was the only female guest. The attendance at the dinner was limited to 600 and cost $12.50. The annual dues were $7.50.

Historical Note

Chester W. Cleveland was the secretary of the Indiana Society of Chicago, located at 35 East Wacker Drive, Chicago, in 1939. The Society was organized in 1905. Membership was "restricted to those Hoosiers who have gained prominence and distinction in one field or another."
