Scope and Contents

This collection contains correspondence and documents of Elizabeth Speirs Weirick Zimmer regarding the Brazil High School class of 1919 and includes the program for the May 10, 1918 Junior-Senior reception and the May 30, 1919 graduation program; correspondence about the 50th class reunion (1969); and a newspaper clipping of a photograph of the class of 1919 taken at their 60th reunion (June, 1979). The collection also includes a clipping about patriotism of high school boys enlisting in the military (circa 1940s).

Biographical Note

Elizabeth Niebet Spiers was born on November 19, 1901 at Diamond, Parke County, Indiana to John and Janet Speirs. She graduated from Brazil High School in 1919 and attended Purdue University before teaching school at Clinton, Indiana from 1920 to 1924. She married Horace K. Weirick (1898-1947) on June 22, 1924 and they had one daughter. She graduated from Butler University with a bachelor of arts degree in 1948 and received her master of arts in 1951. She taught school at Broad Ripple High School from 1949 to 1956 and then married, Karl R. Zimmer (1893-1967), founder and chairman of the board of Zimmer Paper Products, Inc., in September 1956. She passed away at the age of 87 on October 13, 1989.
