Scope and Contents

Russell J. Ryan's letter, dated July 21, 1948, advises Harold Sander, Indiana State Library, that the Freedom Train will be in Indianapolis on July 29 and 30, which is "such a brief period," that the bank will have an exhibit of enlarged photographs of those orignal documents in the main lobby during banking hours each day during the week of "Rededication of American Freedom."

The Freedom Train, proposed by Attorney General Tom C. Clark in April 1946, operated from 1947-1949, taking the original versions of the United States Consitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, and Truman Docrine, on a tour of all 48 states and more than 300 cities.
