Scope and Contents
This collection includes two items. A handwritten letter written by Lloyd and Adele Beesley, Route 1, Box 106, Cedar Grove, Indiana 47016, dated January 15, 1971, is addressed to Mrs. Hazel Hopper, Indiana Division, Indiana State Library. The letter states: "In '69 we received a grant to search for orchids in Indiana. Late in '69, we only found one orchid but went a distance of 500 miles. In 1970, we went over 1000 miles" and found two orchids. One place they searched was Bradford Woods. The reason orchids were difficult to find was because "many grow where timber rattlesnakes are said to be found and in swamps it is nearly impossible to see them in all the the underbrush."
Along with the letter is a plastic page with 20 pockets, nine of which are filled with slides of orchids. The names of the orchids and locations are written on the cardboard frame of each slide.
