Historical Note
The Flying Squadron of America was a national prohibition group headed up by Governor J. Frank Hanly. The "Squadron" force was made up of twenty men and women who traveled the country speaking twice daily promoting prohibition. The campaign began on September 30, 1914 and continued through June 6, 1915, for a total of 235 days with no date or place missed. Initially a temporary campaign, the squadron was disbanded on June 6 and the following day Hanly incorporated a new organization, the Flying Squadron Foundation, under the laws of Indiana with himself as president. With the slogan, "A Saloonless Nation by 1920," the Foundation continued the earlier group's nationwide propaganda campaign for total abstinence and national prohibition.
