Historical Note

The recipes collections consists of a variety of baking company-published recipe books. During the early 20th century, companies such as the Royal Baking Powder Company, Fleischmann's Yeast Company, the Washburn Crosby Company (proprietor of Betty Crocker and Gold Medal Flour), Calumet Baking Powder Company, and other similar companies published cookbooks with recipes that prominently feature their baking products. Over time, most of the companies merged together, or were bought out, by larger corporations like General Foods/Kraft Foods or Standard Brands/Nabisco Brands. Today, brands such as Betty Crocker continue to publish cookbooks that prominently feature their products.
