Historical Note

Camp Koch, a summer camp for children with disabilities, was situated on a high bluff overlooking the Ohio River near Troy, Indiana. The camp was made possible by Evansville industrialist and philanthropist, Henry F. Koch. Koch donated the property and paid for the construction of the buildings and furnishings and the camp was dedicated and presented to the Indiana Society for Crippled Children in ceremonies on May 15, 1949. The first camps began in June of 1949 and offered children with special needs from Indiana and Northern Kentucky a place to enjoy recreation, crafts, and other activities in a save environment. Camp Koch is not the same as the Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana's residential camp facility, Camp Henry F. Koch, near Cannelton, Indiana.
