Scope and Contents

This collection includes a July 15, 1943 letter sent to Harold F. Brigham, Director of the Indiana State Library, from Dr. R.C. Buley of the History Department at Indiana University regarding The Indiana Home, a memorial book containing five unpublished essays on Indiana life by Logan Esarey. In the letter, Buley asks if a review of the book can be printed in the Library Occurrent and suggests that I.U. librarian Estella Wolf write the review. The collection also includes a copy of Brigham's response letter to Dr. Buley dated July 20, 1943 and Miss Wolf's July 31, 1943 typewritten book review that praises both Esarey and his essays.

Biographical note

Estella Wolf was born on April 12, 1880 at Tiffin, Ohio to Jacob and Catherine Wolf. A graduate of Heidelburg College in Tiffin, she received her master's degree from Ohio State University and further library training at Drexel Institute in Philadelphia (now Drexel University). She began working at Indiana University in 1915 as an assistant reference librarian and later became the reference librarian. She retired after more than 30 years in 1946. Following retirement, she moved back to Ohio and passed away in Springfield on May 15, 1956.
