Lenore Livingston Knight collection

 Collection — Folder: S1437
Identifier: S1437

Scope and Contents

There are 16-typed pages in this collection of poems written by Lenore Livingstone Knight, perhaps while she was a student at Indiana University in Bloomington. On the front page, written in pencil, it says: "Presented to Lewis B. Richardson by the author." Several of the poems are about unrequited love. On page 9, she wrote: "I love you but you do not know, my heart calls to you wherever you go. Wherever you wander, wherever you roam, come back to me, love, my heart calls you home."

On page 11 are two poems: "To An English Comp Prof" and "Tribute." The first poem is thus:

"You asked for poetry. I thought of a sonnet, But I found I couldn't Write one, plague on it. I thought of an ode To Psyche or Cupid. But I found that there I was just as stupid. I just couldn't do it, Though I tried a long time; So if you won't take this for poetry Please take it for rhyme."

TRIBUTE

"It's tough to be a basket ball fan. And look out over the floor When the other side are fightin' hard, And doublin' up the score. It's hard to yell your head off, When all our shots are bum, It's tough to be a basket ball fan But our team sure has some."

On page 13 is her poem entitled ROUTINE:

"To bed at two and up at seven, Lots of work and little pay, Nothing out but a hard boiled crank, A news reporter's day. Lots of news and all of it scoops, To bed at twelve and up at 'leven, Robberies, scandals, accidents, interviews, A news reporter's heaven."
