William Williams collection

 Collection — Folder: S1431
Identifier: S1431

Scope and Contents

These four pages, written in ink on blue paper, are notes for a speech about "Mr. Williams, the candidate for Lieutenant Govenor." Although there is no date, the year 1857 is mentioned. The final page gives expenditures by State government in 1835, 1836, and 1837. On page three, the writer stated: "Instead of a loss of two millions, Mr. Williams might just as well have made it ten millions. All this mysticism and false reasoning is put forth to cover up the Whig losses, by fraud campaigning and others. But he is mistaken in the gulliblity of the people. They are as able to make correct calculations as well as he is, and will at once conclude that no credit should be placed in the calculations of a man so completeley destitute of all foundation to stand up[on]."
