This collection contains photocopies of hand-written letters and lists of members of the Welde, Welty, and Bowstead families ranging from 1889 to 1890, concerning detailed genealogical information with family names, dates, and places. There is also an invitation to the wedding of Olive M. Wilhite to Hugh S. Hadley on October 26, 1890 in Lake Valley, Indiana.

Biographical Note

The immigrant ancestor of Welty family was Johann Jakob Welde, who came from Germany with his wife and three children. They had two daughters and three sons in all. One of those sons was John Welty, who settled on a farm two miles from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. John married Catherine Weaver and raised thirteen children. Their oldest son was Jacob, who married Sophia Walter and had twelve children. The second son of Jacob and Sophia was Daniel, husband of Catherine and father of twelve. Daniel and Catherine Welty went to Wisconsin in 1850. Adam and Philena Welty lived in Martinsville and Bloomfield, Indiana, when they had children.
