George Wayman collection
Collection — Folder: S1375
Identifier: S1375
Scope and Contents
The two pieces of paper in this collection are photocopies. The typed, single-sheet letter is headed: "June 1, 1960. Copy of a letter sent to Bernadette Robertson from Bertha Trulock Nordloh which she found in an old book belonging to her." The letter is addressed to Sarah from her "loving husband," but his name is not on the paper. The date is January 1851. The letter describes Indianapolis with a 7,300 population, corduroy roads, and wild turkeys. He wrote: "Don't let George get too far from the cabin, because the wolves are bad when hungry." He wrote that he thought "the constitution should be rewritten every 40 years." Sarah's husband concluded his letter by writing: "This afternoon we are going down to see the train pull in. It is quite a novelty."
The second photocopy includes a clipping of Henry Clay for President, Theodore Frelinghuysen for Vice President, and 12 Electors. The clipping on the lower half of the sheet shows Zachary Taylor for President, Millard Fillmore for VIce President, and 12 Electors. Joseph G. Marshall is the only man who appears on both lists.
