Historical Note

James H. Burk and Captain (Quartus C.) Moor were enlisted at the Company H, 37th Infantry Regiment in Indiana, but Captain Moor resigned in 1862, leaving Burk at the camp. They write back and forth, talking about life during the Civil War as well as battle experiences and camp life not only for him, but for the soldiers too. The relation of N.F. Shields or Mrs. Andrew H. Tynan to either of these men is not known.
