This advertising card states, "The Well-Known Card Writer and Penman, Captain Tyler, Teacher of Penmanship, Fort Wayne, Ind. Public Schools." On the back, it says "Mr. Dunn. Please have the slates ready for me Wednesday afternoon first thing at 1:30 and oblige. Respt. Capt. Tyler."

Biographical Note
Captain John L. Tyler was born around 1826 in New Hampshire. Tyler married Adaline Julia Howard on February 11, 1850. In 1880, he lived in Fort Wayne with his wife. His occupation was a writing teacher. According to the Fort Wayne Daily News, Tyler was 76 years old and "remarkably vigorous for one of his years" on May 31, 1902. Tyler died on April 7, 1909 in Rome, Noble County, Indiana.
